Since it was founded under the name of National Association of Real Estate Exchanges in Chicago on May 12, 1908, with just 120 founding members, 19 Boards, and a single state association, the National Association of REALTORS庐 (NAR) has grown to over 1.3 million members, 54 international state associations and more than 1,300 local associations today.

As America’s largest trade association,  the NAR represents 1.3 million members who are involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industry all over the nation. From brokers working in the residential as well as the commercial niche, sales agents, property managers, appraisers as well as other professionals in the real estate world associated with the NAR - all of the active members subscribe to a Strict Code of Ethics.

The National Association of REALTORS庐 was founded with the purpose of helping to unite the real estate professionals. In addition to uniting real estate professionals, the NAR also aimed to unite creators in their efforts to become profitable, influential and successful individually, and as a collective entity. This association and its members are constantly striving to be a collective force that shapes and influences the future of the real-estate industry. Their advocacy efforts include upholding the right to own, use, and transfer real property; set the standard for real estate best practices, conduct ethical real-estate transactions and promote the interests of real-estate professionals.

With conferences being held across various cities all over the United States since its inception, the NAR grooms its leadership in strictly upholding the Constitution and its Bylaws, the Code of Ethics as well as Model Bylaws for State Associations and Local Boards.

The NAR is actively involved in political advocacy at the Federal, State and Local levels with a well-respected and influential REALTORS庐 Political Action Committee (RPAC) which advocates every day on behalf of the nation's 1.3 million real estate professionals as well as 75 million property owners. The National Association of REALTORS庐 is well renowned as being among some of the most effective advocacy organizations in the country. Its executives work tirelessly to introduce federal policy initiatives that promote and strengthen the general American public’s ability to own, buy and sell real-estate.
